Artist Statement
Art has always been a part of my world; both of my parents have creative minds and they encouraged me to chase my imagination with a butterfly net and never toss out stray thoughts. My mother worked on paper crafts throughout my childhood and my father heavily influenced my math and analysis way of thinking, so becoming a print artist was inevitable. The problem solving, repetition, and various measurement systems scratched that itch in my mind that drawing and calculus never could on their own.
My art can generally be split into two types, pieces to practice a technique or structure and pieces about my family. Going back through where I’ve been to where I am is a big inspiration in my art. The idea of multiple aspects coming together to create a singular concept is a major part of printmaking and coincides with having moved around a lot as a child. Every place that I lived influenced who I am now and how I look at art.
